Privacy Statement

PRIVACY POLICY

GS1 New Zealand Incorporated (also referred to as “we”, “our” or “us”) considers the responsible use of personal information to be a critical element in enabling the Internet to reach its potential as a serious tool for personal and professional activities. As the Internet changes our lives in a number of ways, GS1 is committed to respecting your privacy. In general, you can visit www.gs1nz.org without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information about yourself.

We recommend that you read this Privacy Policy carefully and retain it for future reference.

This Privacy Policy is governed by New Zealand law and all personal information that is given through GS1’s website will be collected and stored in accordance with New Zealand’s privacy Act 1993.

Collection of Personal Information

Personal information we may collect includes but is not limited to your name, current and previous addresses, telephone/mobile phone number, your EAN•UCC prefix, email address, bank account or credit card details, and occupation.

GS1 will seek to let you know before we collect personal information from you over the Internet.

We will collect this information from you:

  • when you purchase directly from our GS1 website;
  • when you request specific information on products or services;
  • when you sign up to become a member of GS1; and
  • when you sign up to any products, services or events

When you choose to give us personal information over the Internet that we, or our business partners may request, GS1 will endeavour to let you know how we will use this information.

We may also collect non-personal identifiable information from you including the browser name, IP address, and technical information such as the operating system and the Internet service providers utilised.

In general IP addresses (the Internet address of a computer) are logged to track a user's session while the user remains anonymous. We analyse this data for certain trends and statistics, such as which parts of our site users are visiting and how long they spend there. In general, we do not link your IP addresses to anything personally identifiable to you. In those limited cases where session information is not anonymous, GS1 will provide notice of the practice and an opportunity to "opt out."

Some GS1 web pages (members only section) use temporary "cookies," which are small files that may be placed on your hard disk for record-keeping purposes. These are only kept on your machine while you are using the site – in practice this means they are destroyed when you close the browser. A cookie helps us remember who you are. It is like when someone frequently visits a certain shop – the retailer may not know the customer by name, but recognises the customer and knows some of that customer's preferences. You can set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie, giving you the chance to decide whether or not to accept it. (However, by not accepting cookies, you will not be able to access the members’ only area and you may have difficulty with other interactive areas on the site in the future.)
